During spring 2020, a sudden steep temperature increase over Scandinavian caused a rapid snowmelt and led to widespread floods in Sweden, Norway and Finland.
The detailed assessment of this event aims to provide a thorough understanding of the EFAS forecasts in terms of accuracy, timely availability, and effective communication of the forecasts. The report provides a description of the flood event, a hydrological analysis on the in-situ observation, an account of EFAS forecasts as well as media information and ultimately a verification of the EFAS information based on the in-situ observations, comparing the EFAS upgraded model version (EFAS 4.0) to the previous one (EFAS 3.6), and finally concludes with suggestions for future improvements based on lessons learned.
The assessment report is a combined product of the entire EFAS consortia.
